Vandals attack skatepark at Gwandalan

Vandals caused significant damage

Vandals have caused significant damage to the soon to be completed Tunkuwallin Skatepark and Pump Track at Gwandalan.

The $530,521 project has been funded through Central Coast Council’s capital expenditure budget and is scheduled to open in early July.

Council discovered the vandalism, which occurred over the weekend, on Monday, June 23.

It appears vandals broke through the fully fenced and secure construction site on motorbikes and caused significant damage.

The estimated cost of repairing the damage is $45,000.

Council said it still planned to open the new facility on time, addressing immediate safety issues prior to the opening, with the full rectification of the damage yet to be scheduled, and funding for it secured.

Council said the vandalism and subsequent repair would be at significant cost to ratepayers, as well as Council resources – and was a senseless act.

The incident has been reported to police and CCTV footage will be reviewed.

Council urges community members to report any vandalism to the police or Crimestoppers, or by contacting Council’s customer service on 02 4306 7900.

  1. $530,521 for a play space and yet people who pay rates have potholed roads to drive on.

  2. this happens all the time with no involvement or intervention from police or security in broad daylight as it was yesterday 29.06.2025
where are the police patrols. like usual nowhere.

  3. New to the area the number of unregistered and unlicensed trail bikes is very concerning. In Summerland Point Cams Boulevard and surrounding park and streets it’s relentless. That Sunday I was awake beyond 1:00am. The general comment is “no point calling the Police take too long and nothing will be done anyway”. As a ratepayer I will contact the police and number provided on every occasion.
