The Central Coast woke to widespread flooding and road closures this morning, Friday 23 May, following another night of intense rainfall across the region.
Several schools have closed, dozens of roads are underwater, and properties in the Wyong valleys are now under direct threat of inundation.
SES Commander Matt LeClerc confirmed more than 130mm of rain fell overnight in the Yarramalong and Dooralong Valleys, prompting “Prepare to Isolate” warnings for residents.
“The SES has already responded to dozens of calls across the region,” he said. “And we expect many more as river and creek levels continue to rise.”
Central Coast Council has listed more than a dozen major roads closed due to flooding, including key routes through Holgate, Narara, Springfield, Ourimbah, Tuggerah, Jilliby, Chittaway Point, Dooralong, Mandalong, and Wyong Creek.

Low-lying communities around Tuggerah Lakes, Lake Munmorah, Davistown, and Saratoga are also experiencing flooding, with restricted access and rising water levels across many streets.
Heavy rainfall across the Tuggerah Lakes catchment is expected to continue raising flood levels throughout the day.

Council has confirmed that The Entrance Channel and the pilot channel remain open, with clear tidal movement still visible at Long Jetty. This indicates that water is still flowing effectively to the ocean.
In an unusual sight, a large submerged object — believed to be a shed or a boat — was seen floating down Narara Creek towards Brisbane Water.
Emergency services are urging all residents to stay clear of floodwaters, avoid unnecessary travel, and report any hazards or damage to the SES or Council immediately.
Stay tuned to Coast Community News, Coast FM, and official SES channels for continuing updates.
